Dr Paul Harris works as a writer and lecturer. His first book, The Men Who Planned the War (2016) was a study of the staff of the British army on the Western Front from 1914-1918. In 2019, a biography entitled Sir Herbert Lawrence, Haig’s Chief of Staff was published by Helion Books.

He has also written several articles covering the First World War. His research interests include the work of the staff, military planning and strategy, and the relationship between senior commanders and politicians.

He completed a PhD on the staff of the British army at the Department of War Studies, King’s College London in 2013. Prior to that he worked in the financial markets in the City of London. He is a member of the British Commission for Military History and serves on the committee of the Douglas Haig Fellowship.
